The red grape variety (also Meynieu 1) is an interspecific new variety between Cabernet Sauvignon x unknown partner. The ampelographer Pierre Galet (1921-2019) suspected the father variety to be Noah or Baco Blanc, but this is unlikely. The hybrid was crossed in France by the breeder André Meynieu. The variety is no longer significant; in 2016 no stock was reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
