Well-known wine-growing community in the Carnuntum wine-growing region of Lower Austria on the border with northern Burgenland. To the northwest, Petronell-Carnuntum with its world-famous excavations from Roman times is in close proximity. The sunny southern slopes of the Spitzerberg south of Hainburg form a small red wine island. Around 30% of the 200 hectares of vineyards are planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt. The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) dominate. The cellars are a novelty, because they were not dug into the depths, but are hills covered with earth and grass. A very beautiful cellar alley is the "Holzweg". There is a 1.5-kilometre-long educational wine trail with a grape variety garden. Well-known wineries in the municipality are, for example, Josef Dietrich, the Gratzer-Sandriester family, Peter Mitterer, Anton Sandriester and Walter Widler.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
