Abbreviation for "parts per million". Ppm stands for a numerical value expressed in parts per million, 1 ppm = 1 part per million = 0.0001%. One millionth (ppm) corresponds to one milligram per kilogram by mass, one millilitre per cubic metre by volume and one micromole per mole by quantity of substance. However, the international standard ISO 80000 (quantities and units) recommends not using ppm and also the terms ppb (part per billion) and ppt (part per trillion) because "billion" and "trillion" mean different numbers in English and American usage. In the geosciences, however, the term ppm is still commonly used, as are ppb and ppt, especially in rock analyses. In viticulture, ppm is used for analytical data determined during chromatography to indicate the flavour threshold. See also under units of measurement.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
