The winery is located in the municipality of Spielfeld-Grassnitzberg in the Austrian wine-growing region of southern Styria. As early as the 1960s, the parents of the current owner, Armin Polz, turned the formerly mixed agricultural business into a quality winegrowing operation. The name Kiefer comes from the maternal grandparents. Armin Polz completed his training at the viticultural school of Silberberg. The relationship to wine is documented on the website as follows. "Wine is my vocation, my passion, my life". A Buschenschank and a guest house are attached.

The vineyards cover ten hectares of vines in the Grassnitzberg and Hochgrassnitzberg vineyards. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Morillon(Chardonnay), Weißer Burgunder (Pinot Blanc), Gelber Muskateller, Sämling 88 (Scheurebe) and Silvaner, the rest with Zweigelt. The planting density is 4,000 vines per hectare. Depending on the wine type, the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks or in traditional large wooden barrels.
