The red grape variety is a mutation of Black Queen (Bailey x Golden Queen); thus, genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii and Vitis vinifera are included. According to an unproven hypothesis, it is said to be identical to the Pione variety, contrary to this official origin. The hybrid was named after the Thai winegrower Nong Pok, who found it in the early 1980s in the Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. In Thailand, the quantities are probably included under Black Queen, because in 2016 no stock was reported under Pokdum (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
