Term for a conically shaped closure or one that tapers to a point at one end, which can be pressed into the neck of the bottle without much effort. They are not suitable for longer bottle storage in a comparable density to cylindrical corks, but are used for interim sealing when enjoying wine or beverages. Pointed corks can be made of natural cork, but also of other materials such as glass or plastic. See also other products for wine bottles under closures.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
