The red grape variety is a new breeding between Riesling Italico (Welschriesling) x Pinot Noir. The crossing took place in 1989 at the University of Piacenza (Lombardy-Italy) by Mario Fregoni. The early to medium ripening vine is also suitable for sparkling wines. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
