Plant Droit

The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Cinsaut Droit, Cinsault Droit, Espanenc, Plant Dressé(France); Garnacha Francesa (Spain). It should not be confused with the Cinsaut or Garnacha Tinta varieties, despite seemingly suggestive synonyms. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2009, however, there is a close relationship to the Clairette variety. Plant Droit comes from the Vaucluse area in the south-east of the country. According to DNA analyses, it is a parent of the Portuguese variety Olho de Cocco. The medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is very susceptible to botrytis, but resistant to drought (dryness). It produces rather low-alcohol, pale red wines. The variety is grown in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area (but not permitted in it). In 2016, 19 hectares of vines were recorded with a declining trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
