The winery is located in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento in the south of Sicily. It was founded in 1995. It is owned by the cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of oenologist Carlo Corino, have turned the old family estate into a top Italian winery with state-of-the-art cellar technology within a few years. The vineyards cover about 350 hectares of vineyards in the most important Sicilian wine-growing regions. These are planted with autochthonous and international grape varieties. Particular attention is paid to cultivating the right grape variety on the right soil. Among the premium wines are the red wine cuvée "Santa Cecilia" (Nero d'Avola, Syrah), "La Segreta Bianco" (Grecanico, Chardonnay), the white wine cuvée "Alastro" (Grecanico, Chardonnay), the red wine cuvée "La Segreta Rosso" (Nero d'Avola, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and the DOCG wine Cerasuolo di Vittoria. About two million bottles of wine are produced annually.
