The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Merlot x Champion (Concord x Hartford). Synonyms are Plameni and Plamenai. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in Moldova in 1967 by the breeders Nicolae I. Guzun, F. A. Olar and M. V. Tsypko. It is used as a wine grape. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
