The red grape variety is a new variety between Piquepoul Gris x Petit Bouschet (see also under Piquepoul) The crossing was made in France in 1858 by the breeder Henri Bouschet. It was one of the many Teinturier varieties (dyer's grapes), but has no longer any significance. In 2016 no stocks were recorded (Kym Anderson).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
