The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Mauvais Grain, Mauvais Plant, Pinot à Feuilles Ecaillées, Pinot Aigret, Pinot de Volnay, Pinot Dru and Plant Dru. It is a somatic mutation of Pinot Noir. It used to be cultivated in Alsace. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
