The appellation is located in the centre of the French wine region Languedoc. The former VDQS wine was classified as AOC in 2013 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". Under King Louis XVI (1754-1793), winegrowers were allowed to brand each barrel with the "Vin de Pinet" brand. Under Emperor Napoleon III. (1808-1873) the wine was very popular at court and was served at his wedding. The vineyards cover 2,400 hectares of vines on a clay/limestone plateau loaded with quartz pebbles. They extend to the Étang de Thau lagoon and the six communes of Castelnau-de-Guers, Florensac, Mèze, Montagnac, Pinet and Pomèrols in the department of Hérault. This lemon-flavoured white wine is made from 100% pure Picpoul de Pinet(Piquepoul Blanc).
