The white grape variety (also TP 2-1-24, first name was Black Pearl) is an interspecific new variety between MN 1094 (MN 1019 x MN 1016) x Elmer Swenson 4-7-26 (ES 2-12-27 x St. Croix). Genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis berlandieri, Vitis cinerea, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris, and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in 1996 by Tom Plocher in Minnesota. The medium ripening vine is generally resistant to diseases and extremely resistant to frost down to minus 35 °Celsius. It produces full-bodied red wines with soft tannins and aromas of herbs and spices. It is particularly well suited to cold climates and is grown on 9 hectares in Canada and 2 hectares in New York State. In 2016, 11 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
