French term (also crépitant) for the bubbles of a wine in a glass. Vin pétillant is the name given to a semi-sparkling wine or a sparkling wine (as opposed to mousseux = sparkling wine); in Italian, this corresponds to frizzante. In contrast, the foaming of a sparkling wine is referred to in German as moussieren (French: mousser).
For information on the production of alcoholic beverages, see Champagne (sparkling wines), Distillation (distillates), Speciality wines, Spirits (types), Winemaking (wines and wine types) and Wine law (wine law issues).
The wein.plus encyclopaedia is a comprehensive, well-researched reference work. Available anytime and anywhere, it has become an indispensable part of teaching, used by students and myself alike. Highly recommended!
