DOC area for red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Marche. The zone includes the municipalities of Fratte Rosa, Frontone, Pergola, San Lorenzo in Campo and Serra Sant'Abbondio in the province of Pesaro. The name derives from the small town of Pergola, on whose hills the Aleatico grape variety was planted in a Pergola upbringing, as documented as early as 1234, and is therefore called Vernaccia di Pergola here. The wines are made with a main proportion of Vernaccia di Pergola (Aleatico). There are the varieties Rosso - also as Novello, Superiore and Riserva (60%), Rosato or Rosé - also as Frizzante and Spumante (60%), Aleatico - also as Superiore, Riserva, Spumante and Passito (85%).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
