General unit of measurement (abbreviation ‰) for a relative concentration ratio of 1:1000; 10 per mille equals 1 percent. 1 per mille = 1 gram of alcohol in 1 kilogram of blood (or 1 mg/g blood). This unit of measurement is also used for the amount of alcohol in the blood after a consumption of alcohol and has become a synonym for "alcohol level". In road traffic there is a per mille limit, it applies not only to car and motorbike drivers but also to cyclists. In many European countries this is 0.5, in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary it is even 0.0 per mille. The calculation of the alcohol level is described under blood alcohol concentration (BAC). There is also a wide range of per mille calculators on the Internet (click).
