Pearl August

The winery is located in the municipality of Boppard in the German Mittelrhein wine growing region. The origin goes back to the parent house built in 1606. The traditional 400-year-old family vineyard was operated as a sideline for a long time. It was only in 1950 that August Perll completely converted the mixed agricultural operation to viticulture. Today, the business is run by his son Thomas, now in the sixth generation of the family. A wine tavern is attached. The vineyards cover 7.5 hectares in the Bopparder Hamm in the individual locations Elfenlay, Fässerlay, Feuerlay, Mandelstein and Ohlenberg. They are 80% planted with Riesling, as well as the varieties Pinot Noir, Kerner, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and Scheurebe. The fermentation takes place with pure yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wines are matured in the old vaulted cellar, one third dry, one third semi-dry and one third mild, and bottled as early as possible. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also pressed. Around 55,000 wines are produced annually. In the house distillery, noble spirits (yeast, grape, marc, wine, plum) are also distilled.
