Regarding the apostle "Simon the fisherman" in connection with wine and viticulture see under Peter and Paul.

Simon the fisherman (0-64) was called by Jesus to be a disciple together with his brother Andrew. Jesus referred to him as the "rock" (Greek: pétros) on which he wanted to build his church (Matthew 16: 16-19). Peter later travelled to Rome and worked there as the leader of the church. Paul (0 to 64) - then still Saul - was the son of wealthy Jewish parents from Tarsus in Asia Minor with Roman citizenship. His zeal for the faith meant that he had to persecute the emerging Christian church, which he considered to be a Jewish sect that deviated from the law.
