The AOC area is located in the far north of the French island of Corsica in the finger-shaped peninsula of Cap Corse that gives the area its name (yellow on the map). It stretches from the Gulf of Saint-Florent west of Bastia to the south and partly overlaps with the AOC area Muscat du Cap Corse.
The vineyards cover 420 hectares of vineyards on slate and limestone soils. The climate in Cap Corse is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and mild winters and is strongly influenced by constant sea winds.
The red wines (80%) and rosé wines are made from at least 90% Nielluccio (Sangiovese), as well as Grenache Noir, Sciaccarello (Mammolo) and Vermentino. The white wine is made from a single variety of Vermentino.
