A vine disease (also called lame stem disease) caused by a lack of nutrients in the soil such as magnesium and ammonium or by excessive fertilisation with nitrogen. In France it is called Desséchement de la rafle (desiccation), in California Water Berry. In this case, the grape stalk or even parts of the grape framework shrivel up and dry out, which cuts off the supply of the grapes, the berries cannot ripen and therefore have too low a sugar content.
