Picardan

The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Aragnan, Aragnan Blanc, Araignan (2nd main name), Araignan Blanc, Gallet or Gallet Blanc, Grosse Clairette, Milhaud Blanc, Papadoux, Oeillade Blanche and Picardan Blanc. The name Picardan is said to be derived from the words "piquer" (to prick) and "ardent" (burning), which refers to the flavour of the grapes and the wine made from them.

It is an old grape variety from Provence, possibly mentioned as early as 1554 but certainly in 1715, where it was widely cultivated...
