Palliser Estate

Named after the British admiral Sir Hugh Palliser (1723-1796), the winery in Martinborough in the Wairarapa area (North Island) was founded in 1984. The first wine was produced in 1989. In 1995, it was the first New Zealand winery to be certified according to the ISO 9002 standard (quality management). The vineyards cover 85 hectares and include the Clouston, Om Santi, Palliser, Pencarrow and Pinnacles vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc as well as Pinot Noir. The top wines are marketed under the "Palliser Estate" label. The estate's flagship wines are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Simpler wines are produced under the "Pencarrow" label. A large proportion of the production is exported.
