In Spain, common designation for small vineyards or parcels of land with uniform soil and homogeneous site climate (terroir), which are limited by topographical conditions. According to an old tradition, the winegrowers of the Spanish Jerez region, where sherry is produced, divide the winegrowing area into pagos. The term can be roughly equated with the French Clos. However, it should not be confused with the wine quality grade Vino de Pago, which was newly introduced in Spain in 2003. A list of vineyard-relevant keywords is included under Vineyard.
