The wines of the former DOC area in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna were absorbed into the new DOC area Romagna from the 2012 vintage; see there.

The historical landscape between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea is the eastern part of the Italian wine growing region Emilia-Romagna. Here lie such important cities as Cesena, Imola, Ravenna and, as the centre of seaside tourism, Rimini. From the 15th century onwards there were constant changes of rule here and in 1859 Romagna even formed an independent state for six months called the Cispadan Republic with the capital Bologna
