Formerly common name in Austria for certain quality wines. It could only be used for vintage wines with the best recognisable characteristics in terms of their varietal character and origin. In addition, the label had to contain information on the selection criteria. However, this designation is no longer mentioned in the current Designation Ordinance of 2011. See Selection for the conditions under the designation contained in this Regulation. The recommended standard wine of a catering establishment is often also called a private label (see also under private label). However, the two designations house wine or house drink have a completely different meaning. See also under special wines.
