Designation for a narrower designation of origin:
Designation (also Gemarkungswein) for a wine that has been pressed from grapes within the municipality or Gemarkung boundary. This corresponds to the French Village. In the VDP classification model (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), Ortswein is the penultimate level before the lowest level Gutswein.
Closer levels of origin defined by wine law in the quality pyramid of the DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) system of origin are Gebietswein, Ortswein and Riedenwein.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
