The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Oltremarina, Tarmarina, Termarina Rossa, Tramarina, Uva di Corinto and Uva Passerina. It was first described in 1840 by a Bertozzi as a variety from Reggio Emilia; at that time there were visibly white and black versions.
