Oelsberg

single vineyard in the municipality of Oberwesel in the German wine-growing region of the Middle Rhine. The south-facing vineyard at 70 to 120 metres above sea level with a slope of 60 to 70% covers six hectares of vines. The soil consists of weathered slate with layers of red sandstone and loess. The Rhine flows straight towards the Oelsberg over a length of six kilometres, which creates a particularly favourable angle of incidence for the sun and an extreme intensity of light reflections. Riesling is the main grape variety cultivated here. The Dr. Kauer and Lanius-Knab wineries, for example, have shares in the site.
