Niedermayr Thomas Hof Gandberg

The winery is located in the winegrowing community of St. Michael Appiano on the Wine Road (Überetsch) in South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige region, Italy). The family has been cultivating wine and fruit growing for generations. The farm is managed by Thomas Niedermayr in the second generation. Father Rudolf Niedermayr is considered a pioneer in the cultivation of fungus-resistant grape varieties and organic farming. The cultivated area covers three hectares at the south-eastern foot of the Gandberg mountain at an altitude of 520 metres above sea level. The vineyards with two hectares of vines on deep limestone gravel soil are located on the south-eastern slope at the southern end of the Appiano Mountain cultivation area. For ecological reasons, PIWI varieties have been planted as a preference since the mid 1990s. Today, this is 95% of the stock

The white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Solaris, Bronner, Souvignier Gris and Muscaris, as well as the red wine varieties Cabernet Cortis, Cabernet Cantor and some varieties selected from our own breeding are cultivated. Already since 1991, the cultivation has been carried out according to the principles of organic viticulture according to the guidelines of Bioland; certification/control is carried out by ABCERT. The diversity in the vineyard ecosystem is to be promoted through regular ecological sowing or greening

Since the 1993 harvest, the grapes are pressed in the farm's own cellar. The fermentation takes place spontaneously with natural yeasts from the vineyard. The product range comprises exclusively organic wines. It consists of the white wines Weißburgunder "T.N. 76", Bronner "T.N. 04", the Cuvée Sonnrain "T.N. 99" (only PIWI), Souvignier Gris "T.N.06" and the mash-fermented Souvignier Gris "T.N. 06" Abendrot as well as the red wine cuvée Beerl. Around 12,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the associations Bioland and Freie Weinbauern Südtirol.
