The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Balau, Baló, Barbera Rotonda, Bonarda, Bonarda d'Macoun, Bonarda Rotonda, Dolcetto di Boca, Durasa, Freisone, Peilavert, Pelaverga and Uva d'Galvan.
The parentage of the variety is unknown. It should not be confused with the varieties Durasa, Barbera, Bonarda Piemontese, one of the numerous Neretto varieties (see there), Pelaverga or Rastajola, despite some synonyms or morphological similarities. Direct descendants are the Barbera di Patrunat and Tintoria Lloyd varieties, presumably through natural cross-breeding.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
