The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Anrè, Nebbiolasso, Nebbiolone, Negretto, Nerello, Neretto, Neretto di Piemonte, Uva da Can, Uva da Cane and Uva d'Incisa. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2006, there is a parent-offspring relationship with the varieties Lambrusca di Alessandria and Uvalino. The variety is grown in very small quantities in Piedmont. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
