The red grape variety is an intergeneric new variety between (Vitis vinifera x Muscadinia rotundifolia) x Ruggieri 140 (Vitis berlandieri Resseguier 2 x Rupestris du Lot). Intergeneric means that two different vine genera were used (see chromosome and vine systematics). Synonyms or breeding numbers are MTP 3146-1-87, Nemadex AB, RPG1 and VMH 1 and include genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rotundifolia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France in 1987 by Alain Bouquet on behalf of INRA. The vine is extremely resistant to phylloxera, resistant to nematodes and also suitable for limestone soils, but sensitive to drought. Clone 1163, which is used as rootstock, is authorised.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
