Nekowitsch Gerhard

The winery is located in the municipality of Illmitz in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria) in the heart of the national park "Neusiedler See - Seewinkel". It has been run by Gerhard Nekowitsch on a sideline basis since 1990. The vineyards cover a little more than four hectares. They are planted to 80% with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay and Sämling 88 (Scheurebe), and 20% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. We consistently practice natural viticulture with integrated plant protection. Quality criteria are short pruning, targeted foliage work and a harvesting date that is as optimal as possible. About 70% of the production are sweet wines in the whole range of Prädikat. A particular speciality are reed wines, for which only healthy, fully ripe grapes are dried on reed mats for at least three months. These are pressed as "The Red One" (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch) and "Tradition" (Sämling, Welschrieslimg, Chardonnay), among others. Among the premium wines is also the red wine cuvée "Rubino" (Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch), which is partly aged in barrique. The classic sweet wines are mainly aged in barrique. About 25,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The wines are exported to Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, France and Switzerland.
