Neil Ellis

The winery "Neil Ellis Wines" is located in the Jonkershoek Valley in the South African wine district of Stellenbosch. It was founded in 1989 by Neil Ellis and Hans Pieter Schroeder. Ellis had previously worked for the KWV cooperative as an assistant and then as a cellar master at the famous Groot Constantia winery. But under his name wines were already on the market from 1984. There is no own vineyard ownership. The grapes are purchased from contract winegrowers with a total of over 100 hectares of vineyards from various areas such as Helderberg, Groenekloof and Devon Valley. The wines are vinified in the ultra-modern cellar. Depending on the grape variety, they are aged for up to 22 months in French barriques. The main varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. Premium wines are a Chardonnay, a Sauvignon Blanc from Groenekloof and a Cabernet Sauvignon from Helderberg. Simpler wines are marketed under the label "Inglewood". Over half a million bottles of wine are produced annually. About 70% are exported.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
