The red grape variety comes from France. Synonyms are Borrachon, Negra de Madrid, Tinto de Madrid and Tinto Madrid. It should not be confused with Borrachon (Negral), Négrette (Négralet) or Tempranillo (Tinto Madrid), despite the fact that they seem to be synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, this is a presumably natural cross between Fer x Prunelard. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). In 2010 no stock was recorded (Kym Anderson).
