Négociant manipulative

French term (often abbreviated as NM) for a champagne producer who buys grapes, grape must or base wine, processes them into champagne on his own premises and markets them. The designation is protected for Champagne, outside of which Négociant éleveur is commonly used. See also under Négociant, Bordeaux wine trade and wine trade.
