Négociant manipulant

French designation (NM) for a Champagne producer who buys grapes, grape must or base wine, processes it into Champagne on his own premises and markets it under his own name or trademark. The designation is protected for the Champagne region. Outside of Champagne, Négociant éleveur is more common, but the procedure is identical.
