The New Zealand winery in Renwick (Marlborough, South Island) was founded in 1985 and is owned by the Australian wine production empire Yalumba. It is named after the cephalopod, which is also depicted with its shell on the bottles. The vineyards are divided into three areas Awatere River Vineyard (24 acres), Opawa Vineyard (38 acres) and Renwick Vineyard (16 acres). This gives a total of 78 acres (33 hectares) of owned land. From a total of 180 acres, grapes are purchased from contract growers. They are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. The flagship is Sauvignon Blanc, one of New Zealand's most awarded wines from this variety. The second most important variety is Pinot Noir, which occupies a quarter of the area and is cultivated with various clones. Simpler wine qualities are marketed under the Twin Island and Halfmoon Bay labels. Sparkling wines are also produced.
