This white grape variety is a new cross between Ferral Roxo x João de Santarém (Castelão Francês). The cross was made in Portugal by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida. It is grown in small quantities in the Alentejo area and in the Centro region. In 2016, a total of 0.3 hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
