Term for the symbiosis (symbiotic community) between fungi and the root system of higher plants (flowering plants). The fungus lives in the root bark and also penetrates the bark cells. This has positive effects for the host plant, such as the vine, because it is better supplied with phosphorus (phosphate), nitrogen (in the form of nitrates and ammonium) and other nutrients and the soil is better developed. It can also cope better with water stress. Mycorrhiza can be promoted by avoiding ploughing and by cover crop. Mycorrhiza are also used as a remedy against so-called vine fatigue.
