The appellation for table grape production is located in the southern part of the French wine-growing region Rhône. It comprises 100,000 hectares of vineyards on slopes with calcareous and clayey-calcareous sedimentary rocks between Mont Ventoux and Avignon in a total of 56 communes in the Département Vaucluse. More than 60% of the plots must be irrigated artificially. The AOC only applies to the Muscat d'Hamburg variety. The appellation Ventoux, which is almost identical, applies to red wines, rosé wines and white wines made from local varieties.
