The appellation is located in the extreme north of the French island of Corsica on the finger-shaped peninsula of Cap Corse that gives it its name. It is an enclave within the two AOC areas Patrimonio and Vin de Cor se (Corse Coteaux du Cap Corse). The vineyards cover 90 hectares of vines on slate and limestone soils in 17 communes. It is considered to be sweet, fortified vin doux naturel. The wine was already famous in the 16th century, but recognition as an AOC came in 1993. It is produced from 100% varietal Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and must have at least 95 g/l residual sugar. Well-known producers are Domaine Aliso-Rossi, Domaine de Catarelli, Domaine Gentile, Domaine Giudicelli, Clos Marfisi, Clos Nicrosi, Domaine Pieretti and Domaine San Quilicio.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
