Muscat d'Alexandrie Red

The red grape variety originates from South Africa. Synonyms are Flame Muscat, Flaming Muscat (California); Red Hanepoot, Roode Hanepoot (South Africa); Violaszinue Alexandriai (Hungary); Beni Alexandria, Moscatel Gordo Morado, Moscatelon Encarnado, Muscat d'Alexandrie Rose, Muscat d'Alexandrie Rouge, Muscat Fiamma and Muscat of Alexandria Red. It is a colour mutation of the grape variety Muscat d'Alexandrie. It was a crossing partner for the Muscat Violet variety. The vine is used as a wine grape and table grape. In 2016, three hectares of vines were designated in South Africa (Kym Anderson).
