In addition to "Vitis subg. Euvitis" (formerly also "Vitis subg. Vitis"), "Vitis subg. Muscadinia" is one of the two subgenera of the genus "Vitis". As the subgenus is often only given in the short form, the term "Vitis" can lead to confusion, as this is also the name of the genus (genus). Correctly, all species of the subgenus Muscadinia should begin with "Muscadinia", for example "Muscadinia rotundifolia". In fact, however, Muscadinia species are often referred to as "Vitis", for example Vitis rotundifolia. See also under chromosome, DNA and vine systematics.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
