Mulata

The red grape variety is a new variety between João de Santarém (Castelão Francês) x Alicante Henri Bouschet. Synonyms or breeding numbers are Leão Ferreira de Almeida 11-48-49 and Negramoll. The Tintinha (Petit Bouschet) mentioned in the breeding list as the sire variety turned out to be wrong in DNA analyses last carried out in 2020. The cross was made in 1948 at the Estacao Agronomica Nacional Quinta do Marques in Spain by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida. It must not be confused with the variety Negramoll (with synonym Mulata). The variety is used as a winepress and table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
