The red grape variety (also Mortes) originates from France. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it comes from a cross between Magdeleine Noire des Charentes (mother of Merlot and Cot) and Penouille. It is cultivated in south-west France. However, no stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
