Mourtaou

The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Calon, Plant des Palus, Pti Verdo, Verdo Chernyi and Verdot Noir. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Plant de Pedebernade 4 x Moural. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). However, Mourtaou is also a synonym for the French grape variety Mancin (of unknown origin). The Kobza winery in Monterey County in the US state of California cultivates a variety called Mourtaou and states on its website that it is Cabernet Pepper. However, it is unclear which variety it actually is due to a lack of DNA analyses. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported under the name Mourtaou (statistics Kym Anderson).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
