The winery is located in the municipality of Eisenstadt-St. Georgen in the Leithaberg wine-growing region of Burgenland (Austria). The family business was first mentioned in a document in 1648. The formerly mixed agricultural business was converted to a pure winegrowing business in 1961. Since 1987, only quality wines have been produced. The vineyards cover 20 hectares in the Angerl, Flachgraben, Gartenacker, Jungfrau, Hochberg, Huszarl, Kogel, Lehmgrube, Obere Hurt and Viehtrift vineyards. They are 60% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet, Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, and 40% with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Natural viticulture is practised with integrated plant protection and fertilisation reduced to a minimum. Quality criteria are weaker-growing rootstocks, thinning and targeted foliage care for the purpose of yield reduction.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
