Morellino del Casentino

The red grape variety comes from Italy. It must not be confused with Sangiovese (Morellino) or Morellino del Valdarno, despite the fact that it appears to have synonyms or morphological or name similarities. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2008, there is a parent-offspring relationship between Morellino del Casentino and Sangiovese (but the most likely parent is Sangiovese). The variety used to be cultivated in Tuscany, but is no longer of any importance today.
